{"value"=>"<p>In 1970, Frank Goffio, then CARE's executive director, announced the restructuring of MEDICO. In order to develop a closer relationship between MEDICO and other types of CARE programming, the assistant executive director (AED) for Overseas Operations assumed overall responsibility for MEDICO personnel, with Coppold and Hastings reporting to him. The programming aspects of MEDICO fell under the administration of the Program Department AED. Ethel Spore, a registered nurse who had worked for MEDICO since 1963, filled the newly-created position of medical program officer.</p> <p>Pre-1970 items in Subseries 6 are mostly from CARE's former central research library; post-1970 files are those of Ethel Spore and her successors, Mary Lewis and Roy Brown. Boxes 1087-1092, country files, mainly concern specific MEDICO projects and consist chiefly of correspondence between the missions and the New York office, progress reports, and nursing and other procedure manuals for each country. The contents of Boxes 1093-1095, subject files, are arranged in rough chronological order and include general information on MEDICO programming, files on conferences, including the Halifax and Alma Ata conferences of 1978, and correspondence, especially with overseas staff. Much of this correspondence is in the chronological, or \"running\" files of the medical program officers.</p>"}
