{"value"=>"<p>Printed matter, including press clippings, articles, and CARE newsletters; union-related files, thank-you letters, and other items.</p> <p>The files in Box 1005 are chiefly those of CARE's AFL-CIO representatives, who worked with the AFL-CIO and its member unions in fund drives to provide food and self-help kits to trade unionists in CARE countries. There are also two files pertaining to the activities of the Union of CARE Employees, 1947-1949 and 1963.</p> <p>Box 1006 contains CARE fact sheets, brochures, and a variety of newsletters, including a nearly complete run of <span class=\"title\">CARE World Report</span>, Winter 1972-73 through Summer 1989, and various internal bulletins. Among other materials in Box 1006 are examples of press kits, and information on the contents and distribution of CARE packages, 1946-1970. Box 1007 holds an assortment of newspaper clippings and magazine articles concerning CARE from the 1940s through the mid-1980s.</p> <p>About half the contents of Box 1008 pertains to preparations for CARE's 25th, 30th, 35th, and 40th anniversary celebrations. The remaining files contain information on various fund-raising projects, 1949-1983, CARE's nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1951 and 1987, and such items as commemorative stamps and copies of letters to CARE from U. S. presidents and other political figures.</p> <p>Box 1009 contains some of the few available examples of letters of gratitude from recipients of CARE's assistance. Most of these were forwarded to CARE by the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, which provided for the shipment of numerous kosher CARE packages between 1950 and 1952. The remainder, ranging from the 1940s to 1988, were written directly to CARE.</p>"}
