{"value"=>"<p>Boxes 503-514 contain an assortment of reports, largely produced by the Program Department in the 1950s through the 1980s.</p> <p>Box 503 consists mostly of the Program Department's annual reports to CARE's Board of Directors, 1967-1982. Along with the project resumes and summaries, also in Box 503, they offer a useful synopsis of CARE's activities in all countries for each year.</p> <p>The contents of Box 504 are reports and position papers, 1958-1984 and undated, mainly pertaining to Program Department administrative procedures or describing CARE's activities in certain areas, such as health care and refugee assistance. The contents of Box 505 are similar, but chiefly concern specific projects. About two-thirds are evaluations or \"category reports\" on agriculture, community development, nutrition, and education projects. Items date from 1958 to 1983, but are mostly pre-1975.</p> <p>Roughly one-third of Box 506 consists of mission directors' discursive reports, interfiled with country fact sheets and press releases, 1954-1959, filed alphabetically by country. (A more comprehensive set of discursive reports is in Subseries 3.7). The remaining two-thirds contain country program rationales, 1964-1973, alphabetical by country and chronological therein, which are useful summaries of CARE's varied activities in a country for each year.</p> <p>Box 507 mostly holds country post reports, 1976-1978, prepared by country directors for new overseas staff members. The reports provide background information on the geography and climate of each country, available housing, schools, social and recreational facilities, and so forth. There are also files of general information on various countries, 1963-1984.</p> <p>Boxes 508-513 contain a wide variety of country reports, some of which may also be among the project files in Boxes 200-473. These reports include studies by outside consultants and by CARE of specific CARE projects, such as its reforestation program in Chad in the 1970s. There are also comprehensive studies of all of CARE's activities in a certain country. The reports date from 1958 to 1984, and are arranged alphabetically by country.</p> <p>The contents of Box 514 are the reports of CARE executives on their visits to various missions, describing the status of ongoing projects and making recommendations as needed. The trip reports date from 1958 to 1985; most are from the 1970s.</p>"}
