{"value"=>"<p>Subseries 2.4 contains the files of various Program Department administrators for whom there is little other documentation, because in most cases the bulk of their records were still in use at the time CARE's papers came to the New York Public Library. Exceptions are the files of Jinty Edgar, Director of the Research Division of the Research and Development Department from circa 1954 to 1960. Her papers (Boxes 187-188) contain information on institutional donors and on some of CARE's early projects; e. g., its agricultural tool program in Egypt in the 1950s.</p> <p>This subseries also includes files of Margaret Ford, the Program Administrator from 1973 to 1980. Boxes 189-191 document her participation in International Women's Year (1975) and the United Nations Decade for Women, and her work as the liaison with C. I. D. A. (Canadian International Development Agency), CARE Canada, and CARE's New York headquarters.</p> <p>Boxes 192-195 contain records of the Regional Program Officers for Africa and Asia, which consist primarily of reports, papers, and grant proposals for projects in various countries. Most of these materials are from the early 1980s.</p> <p>Box 196 holds the files of Helen Seidler, CARE's Director of Education, a relatively new position. These records include correspondence from mid-1982 to December 1983, arranged chronologically; and memos, notes, and other materials from a 1984 conference for country directors.</p> <p>The contents of Box 197 are the files of Ellen Lieber, Director of Information, another recently-created position. Items include intra-CARE correspondence, especially concerning CARE Europe.</p> <p>Boxes 198 and 199 are the files of various administrative assistants to the Program Department's Assistant Executive Director, which date mostly from the late 1970s through the mid-1980s. They consist chiefly of forms and reports from long-range planning projects, and Program Department officers' visits to missions. About a fourth of the files in Box 199 deal with CARE's relief efforts for famine victims in Ethiopia in 1984.</p>"}
