The Director was primarily responsible for the administration of the division and the coordination of its activities with other CARE divisions and with mission personnel.</p> <p>Although the position of Program Department Director (called the Research and Development Director before 1960) has existed since the late 1950s, Subseries 2.2 consists almost entirely of the files of the Program Department Director from 1973 to 1984, Ralph Devone. There is little pre-1970 material; it is likely that those earlier files were incorporated with those in Subseries 2.5 and 2.7.</p> <p>Among Devone's files are subject files (Boxes 104 and 109-110); memos and other correspondence with CARE staff, especially Program Department personnel (Box 105); correspondence with other organizations (Box 106); and site reports, country agreements, numbered correspondence and other communications with missions (Boxes 107-108 and 111-112). Boxes 113 and 114 contain chronological files of administrative correspondence, alphabetical by country within each year, from 1959-1960 and 1972-1984.</p>"}
