{"value"=>"<p>The Assistant Executive Directors at CARE are usually in charge of a department - e. g., the Program Department or Overseas Operations. This subseries contains files of those A. E. D.s whose work is not clearly related to the activities of a single division.</p> <p>Boxes 69-72 are the files of Abram Becker, an A. E. D. of CARE from circa 1958 to 1962. Becker's responsibilities included personnel matters and fund-raising, especially among CARE member agencies.</p> <p>Boxes 73-77 are Lou Samia's files. (Samia served as an A. E. D. from 1958 to 1967; there is some overlap with his Deputy Executive Director files). Boxes 73-74, subject files from 1954 to 1969, include correspondence with a variety of agencies and organizations, both members and non-members of CARE. Box 75 documents CARE's long-standing relationship with Nationwide Insurance Company, which in 1960 initiated an ongoing program through which its employees contribute to CARE. Samia's A. E. D. files also include materials from the Vick's CARE Crusade, 1960-1961 (Boxes 76-77), a contest sponsored by the Vick Chemical Company with proceeds going to CARE.</p> <p>Boxes 78-82 contain the files of James Lambie, an A. E. D. from 1961 to circa 1972. Lambie, who appears on CARE's 1969 organizational chart as the A. E. D. for \"special assignments\", was based in Washington, DC as the liaison between CARE and various federal offices and agencies, including the Peace Corps. (See the description for Subseries 8.3). His subject files, Boxes 78-79, include material on congressional committees and subcommittees on agriculture and the status of refugees, and the 1965 White House conference on International Cooperation Year.</p> <p>Boxes 80-82 hold Lambie's files on the International Service Agencies; Lambie evidently succeeded Samia as CARE's representative to that federation.</p> <p>Boxes 83-84 contain A. E. D. George Radcliffe's correspondence with country directors and other mission personnel, 1980-1985, mostly concerning changes in personnel and related matters. Radcliffe apparently had administrative responsibility for both the Program Department and Overseas Operations in the early 1980s, and by 1985 held the title of A. E. D. for CARE's International Service Unit.</p>"}
