When CARE was founded, the Board consisted of representatives from each of CARE's twenty-two member organizations. During the 1950s, it expanded to include public members; by the mid-1980s, nearly half of the forty Board members were public members.</p>"}

There are also files of early Board memoranda, notices of meetings, and lists of Board members.</p> <p>Box 6 contains subject files, 1946-1960, mostly documenting CARE's reorganization and shift in the mid-1950s from emergency relief work toward long-term feeding and self-help programs.</p> <p>Boxes 7-12 hold the minutes of Board of Directors meetings and minutes of the meetings of its various committees: Executive, Finance, Policy and Planning, etc., interfiled chronologically, 1945-1985. Box 12 also includes files of Margaret Ford, who served as assistant secretary to the Board of Directors from 1952 to 1984.</p>"}
