{"value"=>"<p>Americans United for World Organization was founded in June of 1944 as the result of a merger of several political action organizations: American Free World Association, Citizens for Victory, Committee to Defend America, Fight for Freedom, and the United Nations Committee of Greater New York. Its immediate objectives were to mobilize public support for the Dumbarton Oaks proposals, and to support political candidates who favored a strong world organization to keep the peace in the national election of 1944. Subsequently, the organization urged ratification of the Charter of the United Nations. Eichelberger was chairman of its policy committee. Other officers included Ulric Bell (director), Ernest M. Hopkins (chairman of the board), and Hugh Moore (chairman of its organizing committee). In 1945, Eichelberger resigned from the board and executive committee.</p>"}
