The broad themes of Smith's book manuscripts are church-related. Several of the manuscripts are of guidebooks for teaching and preaching from the Bible, ministering and sermonizing, while others address the issues of pastor/deacon relations and church trusteeship. Smith's books were published by the Progressive Baptist Publishing House, Allen Temple Baptist Church, Broad man Press, and other small presses in the Oakland area and Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
