{"value"=>"<p>The New York conference on practical citizenship was the first of hundreds of similar conferences held across the country in September and October 1926. The conferences were organized by NCF and the American Legion in response to the low voter turnout in 1920 and 1924, and were intended to publicize the patriotic importance of voting in 1926.The correspondence is with patriotic organizations, labor unions, church councils, trade councils, Chambers of Commerce and others. There are also miscellaneous papers including a welcoming address by James J. Walker, Mayor of New York, and addresses by Ralph Easley, Ogden Mills, John Hays Hammond, and others.</p>"}
