Collected here is incoming correspondence for the Chairman, Gen. William G. LeDuc and Chief Clerk, Carman. The correspondence reflects routine requests the department would handle. Records from the Veterans Administration were probably acquired by Carman's son, Dr. Louis D. Carman, a V. A. medical examiner in the late 19th century. The documents include correspondence, primarily comprised of pension requests from members of congress on behalf of their constituents, pension certificates approving a request, and pension request cards (index cards) that were filed for reference.</p>"}
