{"value"=>"<p>This sub-series consists primarily of Sidney Homer's music. Songs were his primary focus for much of his life, many of them published by Schirmer. Most of these published songs are collected in three bound volumes assembled by Homer. Songs not found in the volumes are in loose scores. The remainder of Homer's output was choral music (some of them adapted from his songs), keyboard music and chamber music, the latter composed later in his life and never published. These include two string quartets, two sonatas for violin and piano, a piano trio, and a piano quintet. There are also three boxes of unfinished sketches and several notebooks of his composition studies dating from his student days in Germany, including a treatise on orchestration. The Music Division also holds a separate collection of Sidney Homer manuscripts, JPB 83-299.</p> <p>The other major composers of interest in this sub-series are Samuel Barber and Gian Carlo Menotti. Both men wrote pieces as gifts for the Homers on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. There are nine other songs by Barber, mostly in manuscript form, which were collected by Katharine Homer Fryer.</p>"}
