Ruggles's interests included the Blue Ophir Springs Mines in San Bernardino, California, real estate in New York City and Chittenango, New York and lands in Louisiana inherited by his wife, Grace Baldwin Ruggles. The earliest letters (1849) are letters of introduction, written by R. Tighe and apparently carried by Ruggles on a visit to London and Dublin in that year. Most notable among the correspondents is Washington Hunt (1811-1867), a governor of New York, for whom Ruggles served as secretary in 1851-1852.</p>"}
