Shenton, executive secretary, and Mrs. Alice Vanderbilt Morris and members of the board of directors and general advisory committee, including Frederick G. Cottrell and Dave Hennen Morris. Other correspondents include IALA's office secretaries Mary Bray, Bernice W. Gibson, Ruth Griggs, Marguerite E. Jones, Laura L. Lutz; Dorothea Vanderslice (secretary to Herbert N. Shenton); and Harry D. Gideonse, research assistant. During the 1930s-1940s there is substantial correspondence between Alice Vanderbilt Morris and Ruth Griggs; and, during the 1940s, between Mrs. Morris and Mary Bray relating to financial matters.</p> <p>The alphabetical file consists of correspondence of Mrs. Alice Vanderbilt Morris, Herbert N. Shenton, and Harry D. Gideonse, with European linguists and with members of IALA's advisory committee relating to the research and development of an international auxiliary language. Much of the correspondence relates also to the planning and holding of international conferences and congresses of linguists. Included is extensive correspondence with Willem de Cock Buning, Frederick Gardner Cottrell, Stephen Duggan, Alfred N. Goldsmith, Erich Hofman, Otto Jespersen, André Martinet, C. K. Ogden, and G. Peano (Academia pro Interlingua). There is also extensive correspondence with Rotary International relative to the need for an international auxiliary language; and correspondence with the Research Corporation relative to the awarding of annual financial grants to IALA. Some of the correspondence is in French, German, and Italian.</p> <p>The subject file consists of correspondence and papers relating to the publication and distribution of monographs and pamphlets sponsored by IALA.</p>"}
