The bulk of the material reflecting his career as a teacher covers his time at Columbia University where he not only taught but served as chairman of the Writing Division for several years. This material consists of correspondence regarding special projects, budgets, financial aid, and fellowships, as well as interoffice memoranda, background materials for classes, syllabi, and Halpern's tenure applications.
