{"value"=>"<p>The American Theatre Association (ATA) was founded in 1936 as the American Educational Theatre Association; the name was changed in 1972 when the organization was restructured. The group promoted theater and theater education, with emphasis on children's theater, theater in secondary schools and colleges, and community theater.</p> <p>Jean Korf was a high school drama teacher before becoming a professor of theater at Rio Hondo College. She was a member of the ATA from 1948 until its dissolution in 1986. Her roles in the organization included serving as secretary from 1975 to 1976, and as president from 1979 to 1980.</p>"}

Materials from Korf's presidency largely focus on ATA goals and objectives for the 1980s. The collection holds minutes of board and committee meetings dating from 1975 to 1983, and correspondence with ATA officers and committee members. Korf was chair of the ATA Overseas Touring Committee, which worked in conjunction with the USO and the Department of Defense to develop a touring college theater program. The overseas touring material includes correspondence, notes, and information packets. The collection also holds two posters from the American College Theatre Conference in 1970, and issues of the ATA publication Theatre News from 1978 to 1981.</p>"}
