abstract
{"value"=>"Jadin Wong (1913-2010) was a Chinese-American dancer, actor, and comedian. Her husband, Edward Duryea Dowling (d. 1967), was a theater producer and director. The Jadin Wong and Edward Duryea Dowling papers contain clippings, photographs, programs, letters, and memorabilia. Materials concerning Dowling's career include clippings and programs from shows he worked on, such as The Streets of Paris (1939), Keep Off the Grass (1940), and the 28th annual Eating and Oratorical Contest of the New York chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America (1951). There are photographs, programs, and clippings related to Dowling's work with Beatrice Lillie, including An Evening with Beatrice Lillie, which was produced on Broadway in 1952. Some of the clippings are mounted in a scrapbook. The collection also contains a copy of an article by Hype Igoe about New York bar owner and host Mike Dowling (box 2, folder 1). Materials related to Jadin Wong's career are primarily clippings and programs from the 1970s through 2000, and photocopies of materials from the 1940s onward. There is also a copy of a letter that Wong wrote in response to controversy over the casting of white actors as Asian characters in Miss Saigon (1991), and a reply she received from producer Cameron Mackintosh."}
