{"value"=>"<p>The New School ChoreoConcerts were a project of the Choreographers Theatre. Founded in 1964, the Choreographer's Theatre presented concerts, lecture-concerts, workshops, and courses designed to increase the opportunities for choreographers to present their works. In 1968, Choreographer's Theatre became aligned with the New School's Composers Theatre. Choreographer Laura Foreman, the director of Choreographer's Theatre, then became the director of The New School's Dance department in 1969. The ChoreoConcerts utilized the works of various modern dance choreographers in concerts and lecture-concerts designed to offer audiences a cross-section of modern dance approaches and styles. Music and film elements were often woven into the performances. The concerts were offered at universities and other cultural institutions in the New York area from 1966 to 1975. They were also offered at the New School as a part of the New School's dance program. These special presentations were followed by a discussion between participants and New School students, who had received a special syllabus of dance source materials before each performance.</p> <p>The New School presentations were often billed as \"ChoreoConcerts and Critiques\" and included new choreography as well as special talks on contemporary issues generated by the arts. Participating choreographers were established and emerging artists and included Laura Foreman, Richard Bull, Phyllis Lamhut, Beverly Brown, Emery Hermans, and many more. Up to 19 choreographers could participate in each season.</p>"}
