Correspondents include: Maria Edgeworth, novelist and educationist; Richard Cobden, manufacturer and politician; Lord Palmerston, Prime Minister; Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, novelist; and over fifty others. Also included are two letters and a list of books in Bowring's hand; an 1808 letter from the Duke of Wellington to Lt.
