{"value"=>"Hugh Gaine (1726 or 1727-1807) was a prominent American printer, bookseller, and newspaper publisher who maintained a flourishing shop in New York City from 1752 to 1804. From 1752 to 1783 he printed and published the <span class=\"title\">New-York Mercur</span>y, later the <span class=\"title\">New-York Gazette, and the Weekly Mercur</span>y. The Hugh Gaine papers, dated 1740 to 1806, consist of the indenture of his apprenticeship to Belfast printers Samuel Wilson and James Magee, 1740; the license for his marriage to Cornelia Wallace, 1769; land papers and a letter regarding the sale or lease of property; and receipts and other documents relating to his business, investments and legal affairs."}
