The papers consist of letters written by Dix in his capacity as a Major General of the Union Army and as Secretary of the Treasury relating to official business; several brief notes to Dix from others; a proclamation by Dix to the citizens of Accomac and Northampton, Virginia, announcing the imminent arrival of the Union Army to those counties; and the transcript of a lecture given by Dix on Thomas Jefferson"}
