Over 3,000 35mm negative strips and 1,000 print photographs related to Barvin's career as a location manager and scout for television, film, and video projects filmed in New York and New Jersey as well as Connecticut and Pennsylvania and arranged into series primarily by location. Images are of interiors of occupied and unoccupied apartments, lofts, homes, businesses, schools, churches, theaters, laundromats, factories, warehouses, and offices along with exteriors of properties as well as street views of larger exterior locations. The collection also includes one box of production doccumentation materials."}

{"value"=>"<p>William Michael (Bill) Barvin was born November 25, 1952 in Waterloo, Iowa and grew up in Houston, Texas. He studied art and photography at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio and graduated with a BA in 1978.</p> <p>Barvin worked in the film industry for twenty-five years as a location manager, scout, and producer for television shows, films, and music videos shot primarily in New York and New Jersey in the 1980s though 2000. Barvin worked on television shows including Law and Order and The Sopranos and films including Quiz Show, Fallen, The Hurricane, and Mr. Wonderful. Barvin also worked on music videos including Beck's Devil's Haircut and Dru Hill's In My Bed as well as scouted locations for ELT - English Language Teaching Videos video Only In America. Barvin's work was based in the New York-New Jersey area.</p> <p>Bill Barvin died on July 5, 2000 after a two year battle with ALS.</p>"}

Some of the materials are identified as related to specific television, film, and video properties, but most photos are arranged according to location by state and then city. The collection also includes one box of production documentation materials.</p> <p>Of particular interest are the Photo Files subseries where prints of locations were attached together along with notes to provide a more detailed description of the shooting site.</p>"}
