After establishing a banking firm in London which represented American interests, he returned to the United States in 1914 and wrote books on his extensive travels. Collection contains correspondence, memoranda, business agreements, writings, and photograph albums compiled by Del Mar. General correspondence, 1900-1944, consists mainly of letters from The New York Public Library regarding Del Mar's gifts and requests. Business papers, 1882-1901, include correspondence, memoranda, agreements relating to his company and various other business interests; and papers, 1896-1901, concerning color photography and multi-color printing. Writings series contains notes, diaries, address books, and typescripts including annotated version of Around the World Through Japan (1903). Also, photographs of Del Mar's travels."}

During the early Nineties, Del Mar was a financial correspondent in London. Soon afterwards, he established his own banking firm, which became a London representative for important American interests. In 1914, he returned to the United States and lived in this city until his death in 1944. An author, Del Mar published books on his extensive travels, notably \"Around the World Through Japan\". A bachelor, he was survived by two sisters and three brothers.</p> <p>The Papers are basically concerned with Walter Del Mar's business interests and travels.</p>"}
