{"value"=>"Diary kept by a young man on a journey from Fiskeville, R.I. to Beechwood, PA., and on the return trip, Sept. 1-18, 1828. The young man traveled by stage to Providence, R.I., where he met his traveling companion, his uncle Russell Chase. Diary documents the boat trip to New York City, on the Hudson River boat \"Swiftsure\" to Newburgh, NY, whence they traveled by stage over the mountains to Mount Pleasant, PA. Also documents their arrival on Sept. 5 at the home of Gorton Chase at Beechwood, which was settled principally by people from Rhode Island; description of the country traveled on the return trip in an \"up-country wagon\" to a tavern where they took up the stage back to Newburgh. Additionally documents their arrival in New York City on Sept. 12, including visits to City Hall and the Bowery Theatre; a fire nearby; Brooklyn Navy Yard; the Exchange; Castle Garden; and Peale's Gallery; and their departure on September 17 on the \"Chancellor Livingston\" for Providence"}
