Ordained as a priest in 1953, he taught Latin and English on both preparatory and university levels. From 1969 to 1976 he was Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at City University of New York and was president of Georgetown University from 1976 to 1989. He wrote books and articles, served on the boards of various organizations, and held directorships and fellowships at religious institutions and societies. As President of NYPL, Healy was particularly involved in planning the Science, Industry and Business Library; fund raising; and strengthening the branch libraries.</p>", "supress_display"=>true}
