{"value"=>"<p> Writer and Genealogy researcher Katharine Bagg (Mrs. John Russel) Hastings was born in California on October 30, 1877 to Mrs. and Mrs. Stanley Chipman Bagg. Living in Tombstone, Arizona in 1891, she began a (short-lived) nature publication for children titled <span class=\"title\">Bug-Hunter</span>. She married newspaperman John Russel Hastings in 1904 at Christ Church, Catskill-on-Hudson, New York.</p> <p>Hastings’ publications include William James of Albany, N. Y. (1771-1832) and His Descendants [1924] and at least one article on the Barber family for <span class=\"title\">The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record</span>, probably published in 1931. Also included among the papers are galleys for notes on an article by Hastings published in <span class=\"title\">The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record</span>, Volume LXII (1931), “The Barbers of Orange County, N.Y., as well as illustrations, and a portion of a manuscript titled “The Barbers of Orange and Albany Counties, N.Y. and Elizabethtown, N.J.” There is also a small amount of correspondence, one photograph, and several booklets and clippings.</p> <p>Novelist Henry James and psychologist William James were descendants of the Barber family through their grandmother Catherine Barber James. A few of the allied family names are Burnet (Burnett), Chetwood, Dill, Elliot, Levis, Mancius, and Yates.</p>"}
