{"value"=>"<p>Theatre Without Borders (TWB) was founded as an informal group of individual artists around the world interested in supporting international theatre exchange. TWB was born in 2003 when American theatre director Roberta Levitow returned to the U.S. from a Fulbright Senior Specialist Residency at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She soon discovered other artists and colleagues who were infused with the spirit of internationalism: Erik Ehn, a playwright who traveled to Rwanda in order to write a play about the recent events there; Catherine Filloux, a playwright, who has written extensively about Cambodia, and done Fulbright Senior Specialist Residencies in Cambodia and Morocco; and Deborah Brevoort, a playwright who has done residencies in Denmark, Mexico, Australia, Canada & the Czech Republic. TWB is a virtual community of individual theatre artists who come together for various projects with partner organizations that share a commitment to international theatre exchange. Partners include: New Dramatists, New York, NY, The Playwrights Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota, International Theatre Institute US Center, New York, NY, Kadmus Arts, Bennington, Vermont, No Passport, and Coexistence International at Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts. Projects include the Translation Project and Theatre & Peacebuilding. The Translation Project which began in 2004 created an online database (www.wordswithoutborders.org) of new international plays in translation. The Translation Think Tank is dedicated to developing a network of artists nationally and internationally to explore and promote cultural exchange through the proliferation of translated works. TWB members have also volunteered to create and implement gatherings of international theatre artists in various contexts providing symposia at New Dramatists, Cal Arts and Brandeis.</p>"}
