{"value"=>"Members of the Tayler-Cooper family of New York include John Tayler, 1742-1829, a merchant in Albany; his son-in-law Charles Dekay Cooper, 1769-1831; and grandson John Tayler Cooper. Tayler had extensive land holdings in New York State, held various state offices and served as acting governor in 1817. John Tayler Cooper, a lawyer, was also a general in the New York State Cavalry and director of insurance and railroad corporations in northern New York. Collection consists of correspondence, accounts and business papers, New York State land papers, and various Tayler-Cooper account books. Correspondence is of John Tayler, 1770-1833; Charles D. Cooper, 1804-1832; and John T. Cooper, 1819-1880. Topics include business matters, land holdings in New York State, politics, and social and economic conditions. Bulk of the collection is accounts and business papers, 1744-1879. Also, land papers, 1800-ca. 1881, for Albany and elsewhere in New York State; and account books, 1789-1841."}
