{"value"=>"
The Seacroft Kennels were established by Charles Stedman Hanks in 1890. At this time Hanks brought to the United States Russian Wolf-Hounds, later named Borzoi, from the Czar's kennels.

Hanks' son, Stedman Shumway Hanks (1889-1979), a retired Colonel, U. S. A. F., kept the Seacroft Kennels in existence. Though active in Borzoi fanciers' activities, his involvement in the actual kennel was limited.

Colonel Hanks, an airport engineer and prolific writer, was an early pioneer in aviation, both civil and military. He founded and served as President of American Airports Corporation and was Executive Director of The Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission.

Two of Colonel Hanks prize winning Borzois were Iwan and Pushkin.
"}

{"value"=>"
The collection consists of bound volumes containing information relating to Borzoi dogs and the Seacroft Kennels spanning 1889 to 1968, compiled by Hanks.

The volumes, which were bound at different times, have several numbering systems on their spines. The inventory lists them chronologically. There is much correspondence, 1956-1968, incoming and outgoing with kennel owners and officers of the many Borzoi Clubs of America. Among prominent correspondents are Mary M. Traviner, Clarence R. De Craene, publishers Oliver Perrin and Thomas R. Coward.

Included are documents and records of the Seacroft Kennels; information relevant to the development of Borzoi dogs in the United States; pamphlets, prize ribbons and many photographs of Borzois throughout the collection.
"}
