The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence from the author, dating from 1909 to 1941, to Cecil Day-Lewis, Jack Elliot, the Golden Cockerell Press, Sir Edward Howard Marsh, James B. Pinker, Martin Secker, Carl Van Vechten, Leonard Woolf, Virginia Woolf, and others; as well as letters relating to the author, dating from 1913 to 1962, between various correspondents, including Harold Cheevers, Carl Van Vechten, W. S. Maugham, Rebecca West, and others. There are letters to Walpole from Louis Bromfield, Jo Davidson, Ellen Glasgow, the Golden Cockerell Press, Ernest Hemingway, Sinclair Lewis, Don Marquis, Christopher Morley, W. L. Phelps, Frederic Prokosch, Gene Tunney, Carl Van Vechten, and others, dating from 1919 to 1940.</p>"}
