At the time it was one of three permanent opera companies in the city, more than Manhattan and Chicago. Renowned English conductor Leopold Stokowski performed for the company in the 1930s. The Grand Opera Company merged with the Philadelphia Lyric Opera Company in 1975 and is now known as the Opera Company of Philadelphia.</p>"}

There are programs for the 1931 performance of <span class=\"title\">Wozzeck</span>, and for the world premier of <span class=\"title\">H.P.</span> There is also a script for a 1923 performance of <span class=\"title\">Wozzeck</span> in Leipzig, in the original German. Among the photographs are 4 8x10 <span class=\"title\">Wozzeck</span> set designs and a signed portrait dated 1931, addressed to Mr. And Mrs. Hammer, directors of the company. Press clippings include 9 pages relating to 1931 performances of <span class=\"title\">Wozzeck</span>, and 10 pages on <span class=\"title\">H.P.</span> from 1932. There is one piece of correspondence in the collection, a letter to Mrs. Hammer from the Consul General of Mexico in which he confirms he will be attending the premier of <span class=\"title\">H.P.</span></p>"}
