{"value"=>"<p>Mary Crawford Murray Hyde was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society and a contributor to <span class=\"title\">The New Jersey Coast in Three Centuries</span> (The Lewis Publishing Company, 1902)</p> <p>Mary Hyde (1855-1936) was born in New Jersey to George Crawford Murray and Mary Catherine Cooper. She married Dr. Ovid Allen Hyde of Brooklyn in 1887 and the couple had one son, Chester Ovid Hyde, in 1888. Hyde undertook genealogical research on the different branches of her family in order to gain admittance to the Daughters of the American Revolution, and to procure membership in the Children of the American Revolution for her son. She traced her lineage to her great-grandfather, Joseph Murray, who served in the Monmouth County militia.</p>"}

Murray Hyde papers contain personal correspondence, family papers, and genealogical research notes which trace her lineage to Joseph Murray, a Revolutionary War soldier who served in the Monmouth County militia. Her correspondence contains letters from a family friend, Rev. Oliver Crane, 1884-1886, from Henry Scudder, 1903-1906, and copies of her outgoing letters concerning her genealogical research, 1895. Family papers, 1849-1876 include Murray and Van Mater family quit-claim deeds and mortgages for property in Monmouth and Mercer counties, New Jersey, and letters from George Murray to his wife, Kate from Washington, DC and Fairfax Courthouse, 1864. Additionally, there are materials relating to Dr. Hyde's alma matter, Eclectic Medical College of the City of New York, including letters documenting dates of matriculation for various students, 1896-1897, commencement programs, 1878-1884, and an 1880 schedule of lectures and clinics. Two unidentified photographs of individuals, a photograph of the \"house in which William Lake was born\" in New Dorp, Staten Island, and images of Grace Baptist Church, Philadelphia and Mrs. Robert Murray's home, 1860 are also included.</p> <p>Hyde's genealogical research notes include lines of descent from the Sheriff of Monmouth (1699-1707) and John of Birchington (before 1450), and notes on the Murray family, as well as the Crawfords, the Scott family of Long Island, the Cooper, and the Douglass families. There are also several manuscript property maps, depicting land in Middletown, Monmouth County, New Jersey owned by the Murray, Van Mater, and Crawford families.</p>"}
