Kearney earned the rank of commodore in 1867. Lawrence Kearney's sketchbook contains colored drawings of locations along the Atlantic coast, including: Louisburg, Cape Breton Island; New Orleans, Louisiana; Havana, Cuba; and St. John's Harbor, Antigua. Also included are drawings of ships and forts and some specimens of natural history"}
