Joseph Percy Smyth (1873-1954), an Episcopal priest served Christ Church in Brooklyn (2 locations), Grace Church in Monroe, NY, Christ Episcopal Church in Canaan, CT, and Church of Holy Trinity in Hicksville, Long Island, NY. He was the son of an Irish immigrant Joseph P. Smyth (1847-1903) and his wife Frances E. Plumb Smyth (1843-1900). In 1905 he married Katharine Stoothoff Eldert (1877-1976). Katharine was the daughter of Cornelius Eldert and Isabella K. Cameron, also of Brooklyn. Cornelius Eldert was President of the Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company and the Life Saving Benevolent Society. In his youth he played baseball for the Crescent Base Ball Club of Jamaica, New York.</p>"}
