{"value"=>"<p>Aloysius I. Mudd, born in 1844, was an expert on Washington D.C. theater history. He compiled records of every theatrical and operatic performance in Washington D.C. from June 1800 through the early 1900's, put together a history of Ford's Theatre, and completed <span class=\"title\">The History of Polite Vaudeville</span>. He wrote two papers for the Columbia Historical Society on early theaters in Washington from 1800-1850, which were used as reference books.</p> <p>Mudd was the day manager of the Washington office of the Associated Press until 1892 and was connected with the United Press and Southern Associated Press until 1897. He then worked as chief clerk of the Department of Agriculture's Division of Publications.</p> <p>NOTE: See Appendix for some genealogical information on Mudd and his family.</p>"}

Motion picture reviews begin to appear around 1913 and circus performances appear throughout the years.</p> <p>Other materials in the collection include correspondence belonging to Aloysius Mudd from the early part of the 20th century concerning theatrical topics. Included as well are writings by Mudd discussing Washington D.C. theater history, an autobiographical article about his time at the Associated Press and other topics of interest to Mudd.</p>"}
