Entries include comments on social life at home; books read; church meetings; gardening, apple picking and drying, and other home occupations; weather and road conditions; and deaths and funerals. The diary also includes a few brief notes about Civil War events, President Grant's stopping at the local depot on August 28, 1869, and her son's death on February 7, 1870. The diaries are inscribed to Hannah M. Washburn"}
