{"value"=>"<p>Marie Taglioni, Italian dancer, was born April 23, 1804 in Stockholm, daughter of choreographer Filippo Taglioni, and sister of dancer/choreographer Paul Taglioni. Her dance training began with Jean-François Coulon in Paris in 1812 and continued with her father, Filippo Taglioni, in Vienna and then in Cassel. Her debut, in a divertissement choreographed by her father, took place at the Hoftheater, Vienna, 1822. Her performing continued in Vienna, Munich, and Stuttgart. She debuted at the Paris Opéra in 1827, thereafter performing under contract as “remplaçant” of the Opéra, 1828-1829, and premier sujet, from 1829-1837. In 1832, Taglioni created what is perhaps her greatest role, <span class=\"title\">La Sylphide,</span>choreographed by her father and premiered at the Paris Opéra. Other ballets created for her include <span class=\"title\">La Fille du Danube, L'Ombre, La Gitana,</span>and the now famous divertissement, <span class=\"title\">Pas de Quatre,</span>performed with three other famous ballerinas of the times, Carlotta Grisi, Fanny Cerrito, and Lucile Grahn, at Her Majesty's Theatre in London. From 1837-1841, she continued her international travels with performances in Saint Petersburg, London, Vienna, Paris, Stockholm, and Milan. She retired to Lake Como in 1847 but returned to Paris in 1858, becoming Inspectrice de la danse at the Opéra, 1859-1870. Taglioni died in Marseilles, April 22, 1884.</p>"}

Files R17 to 23 contain various manuscript and typewritten versions of <span class=\"persname\">Marie Taglioni's</span> autobiography, written in French. Files R27 to R61 contain manuscript documents, including correspondence, contracts, etc., relating to <span class=\"persname\">Marie Taglioni's</span> tours or engagements in various cities, 1832-1847, arranged chronologically.
