Numerous miscellaneous volumes record kitchen-related services in the hotel, including liquor expenses, lists and addresses of vendors, and payments for items broken or damaged by employees. Eno, a daring capitalist, wanted to give New York the most splendid hotel in the world. Built in white marble, the six story hotel offered \"more than one hundred suites of apartments, each combining the luxury and convenience of parlor, chamber, dressing and bathroom\". The Fifth Avenue also introduced another widely discussed feature: \"a perpendicular railway intersecting each story\". Guests and visitors found the elevator a pleasant novelty.</p>"}
