{"value"=>"<p>Eugene Berman, a Russian-American stage designer, was born in St. Petersburg, Russia November 4, 1899. He came to the United States in 1937 and became one of the most respected designers of the American theater. Among his productions include Frederick Ashton's <span class=\"emph\">Devil's Holiday</span>(1939), George Balanchine's <span class=\"emph\">Concerto Barocco</span>(1941), <span class=\"emph\">Danses Concertantes</span>(1944), <span class=\"emph\">Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme</span>(1944), and <span class=\"emph\">Pulcinella</span>(1972), Antony Tudor's <span class=\"emph\">Romeo and Juliet,</span>and the second <span class=\"emph\">Giselle</span>production for American Ballet Theatre in 1946. He retired to Rome, Italy where he died on December 14, 1972.</p>"}
