After retiring from the Sun he wrote many articles for newspapers and was a frequent contributor to The New York Times. Mr. Harvier's articles on old New York were among the best known of his writings. Having been a lifelong Democrat in state and national elections and a consistent adversary of Tammany Hall, he was one of the founders of The County Democracy (which opposed Tammany Hall). Ernest Harvier was appointed a commissioner for the Park Avenue Improvement by Mayor Strong, a member of a statistical commission by Mayor Van Wyck and a member of the Aqueduct Commission by Mayor Gaynor.</p> <p>Leon Harvier, brother of Ernest, was an actor and one of the original members of the Arcadian Club.</p>"}
