{"value"=>"<p>Dmitry V. Lehovich was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, May 1901. His father, General Vladimir Lehovich, was Commander of Artillery for the Russian Army in World War I. He was educated at the Imperial Alexander Lyceum. At the age of seventeen he enlisted in the anti-Bolshevik Volunteer Army headed by General Denikin and saw active service in the advance on Moscow and the subsequent retreat of the White Armies across Russia. He left Russia in November 1920 in the evacuation from Yalta of what remained of General Wrangel's cavalry forces.</p> <p>After brief stays in Gallipoli, Constantinople, Yugoslavia and England, he came to the United States in 1924. He graduated from Columbia University in 1927 and went on to a career in banking, working in the International Banking Division of the Manufacturers Trust Company.</p> <p>In 1974 W. W. Norton & Co. published <em>White against Red</em>. Lehovich's historical biography of General Anton Denikin, a commander of the White Army.</p> <p>In 1934 Lehovich married Eugenie Urussov. She was associated for forty years with the School of American Ballet in New York. She was active in literature and co-authored an article with Edmund Wilson on Boris Pasternak for <em>The Nation</em> in 1960s. She died in 1975.</p> <p>Dmitry V. Lehovich died May 14, 1995.</p>"}
