He traveled by steamboat, railroad, canal, horse and buggy, and stagecoach through Norfolk, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Bordentown (N.Y.), Albany, Schenectady, Utica, Syracuse, Rochester, and Lockport to Niagara Falls; returned by way of Buffalo, across Lake Erie to Ashtabula, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Blairsville, Ligonier, Somerset, Comberland and Winchester to Richmond. Mentions sermons heard and delivered on his trip; social and economic conditions; Indian reservations; and places of interest in the larger cities. At back of diary is a commentary on the Epistle of St. Paul, and a discussion of the preservation of writing"}
