{"value"=>"<p>Other Countries, Inc. is a writing collective that began as a weekly writing workshop established by the poet Daniel Garrett in New York City in 1986 to foster the creative expression of Black gay men, and to provide peer support in the face of HIV/AIDS and literary underrepresentation. The collective hosts public readings and publishes anthologies of writing by Black queer male writers such as <span class=\"title\">They Are Other Countries: Black Gay Voices, a First Volume</span> (1988), <span class=\"title\">Sojourner: Black Gay Voices in the Age of AIDS</span> (1993), and <span class=\"title\">Voices Rising: Celebrating Twenty Years of Black Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Writing</span> (2007). Notable members of the collective include the collection's donor, B. Michael Hunter, as well as Colin Robinson, Assotto Saint, and Donald Woods. The name of the group was inspired by the works of James Baldwin.</p>"}
