Singer, actress, dancer, and civil rights activist Lena Horne was one of the family's most well-known members. The Hornes lived in Atlanta, Georgia, and moved to Brooklyn, New York, around 1897, where they were part of New York's Black bourgeoisie. Journalist and author Gail Lumet Buckley (1937-2024) was Lena's daughter.
