{"value"=>"<p>Luna Negra Dance Theater (LNDT), a Chicago-based dance ensemble, was founded by Cuban-born American dancer, choreographer, and educator Eduardo Vilaro in 1999. Vilaro invested all his life savings to start the company immediately after graduating from Columbia College in Chicago. Despite its small size (four to five dancers), the company gained national attention by blending traditional Latinx dance forms with contemporary movement. During the company's existence, Vilaro choreographed over twenty works and commissioned Latinx choreographers such as Ron DeJesus, Vicente Nebrada, Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa to create original pieces. Luna Negra performed locally in Chicago and eventually secured a permanent home at the Harris Theater as one of the first resident dance companies. As the company grew more established, it toured nationally and internationally, including tours in Spain, Panama, and Mexico. Vilaro eventually resigned to lead Ballet Hispanico, and Gustavo Ramirez Sansano became Luna Negra's second artistic director. In 2013, financial difficulties led to the closure of the company.</p>"}
