{"value"=>"<p>Thomas Glave is a writer, academic, and social activist who has published four books of short fiction and essays exploring the experiences of LGBTQ people of color. His books are: <em>Whose Song? And Other Stories</em> (2000), <em>Words to Our Now: Imagination and Dissent</em> (2005), <em>The Torturer's Wife</em> (2008), and <em>Among the Bloodpeople: Politics and Flesh</em> (2013). He also edited the first anthology of Afro-Caribbean LGBT literature, <em>Our Caribbean: A Gathering of Lesbian and Gay Writing from the Antilles</em> (2008).</p> <p>Born to Jamaican parents in the Bronx, New York, Glave grew up in New York City and Kingston, Jamaica. He earned a BA in English and Latin American studies from Bowdoin College in 1993, and an MFA in creative writing from Brown University in 1998. He is a professor in the English department at Binghamton University, where he teaches creative writing and courses on Caribbean, African American, Black British, postcolonial, and queer literature, among other topics.</p> <p>Glave is the recipient of multiple fellowships and awards, including a Fine Arts Work Center Fellowship in Provincetown (1995-1996); an O. Henry Prize for fiction (1997); a Fulbright Scholarship to Jamaica (1998-1999); and Lambda Literary Awards (2005 and 2008). In 2008 he was the Martin Luther King Jr. Visiting Professor in Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Program in Writing and Humanistic Studies. While in Jamaica, he worked on issues of social justice and co-founded the Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexuals, and Gays (J-FLAG).</p>"}
