Subtitled \"Africa and America: Partners in the New Millennium,\" the summit was put on by the US-Africa Partnership of the US State Department in order to discuss political, economic, and social partnerships between the US and African countries. The five thematic committees of the summit were peace and security; education and culture; democracy and human rights; sustainable development; and economic development, trade, and investment. The Southern Center for International Studies (SCIS) hosted the summit. The keynote speaker was President Bill Clinton. Other notable speakers were Vice President Al Gore, President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi of Kenya, Vice President Atiku Abubakar of Nigeria, and other American and African dignitaries.</p>"}
