Early correspondence includes a letter of reference attesting to his aptitude for journalism; later letters address editorial matters, meeting arrangements, and more. Also included is a letter to \"Miss Jerdan,\" a daughter of William Jerdan's; two poems unassociated with letters: the anonymous \"Life -- Farce!\" and \"A Seasonable Song,\" by Captain Richard Johns; as well as the text of Charles Swain's \"Hymn to the Cross,\" which follows his 1837 note to Jerdan.</p>"}
