{"value"=>"<p>Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe (1951-) is an American photographer and author of <span class=\"title\">Viewfinders: Black Women Photographers</span> (1986), which highlights previously unrecognized Black women pioneers in the field of photography. Moutoussamy-Ashe worked on the book with Deborah Willis, then curator of Prints and Photographs at the Schomburg Center. Her first book was <span class=\"title\">Daufuskie Island: A Photographic Essay</span> (1982).</p> <p>Moutoussamy-Ashe's work has been shown at the Schomburg Center, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and at museums and galleries around the world. She is the author of five books, and her photographs have appeared in publications such as <span class=\"title\">Life</span> magazine, <span class=\"title\">Essence</span> magazine, and the <span class=\"title\">New York Times</span>.</p> <p>Moutoussamy-Ashe married professional tennis player Arthur Ashe in 1977. In 1993, Ashe died of complications resulting from AIDS. He is believed to have contracted HIV from a blood transfusion he received during heart bypass surgery.
