She was a professor of film history and screenwriting in the Theatre Arts Department at City University of New York (CUNY), City College from 1974 to 1988.</p> <p>Collins began as a film editor at National Educational Television. Her first film, <span class=\"title\">The Cruz Brothers and Miss Malloy</span> (1980), was never theatrically released. Collins directed, co-produced, and wrote the screenplay for her second film <span class=\"title\">Losing Ground</span> (1982). The film was the second full-length feature to be directed by a Black woman. The first was <span class=\"title\">Will</span> (1981) by Jessie Maples.</p>"}
